The new Alfa Romeo Stelvio – A high-performance SUV
The Stelvio inherits arguably the most significant attribute of any Alfa Romeo: distinctively appealing styling that stands out among SUV competitors. The SUV’s interiors are visually appealing with its rear seat space and material quality. The sporty Italian SUV is a direct descendant of the outstanding Giulia saloon. Not only does it have a great drive, but it also has powerful engines and smooth handling. Here’s why the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is worth a look.
What’s new in the new 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio
The 2022 Stelvio Quadrifoglio only receives new standard features. These include several previously optional driver aids, such as automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Additionally, it now includes standard features like a wireless phone charger, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and built-in navigation.
Engine and transmission
A twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6 with 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque serves as the vehicle’s only power source. It functions with an automatic eight-speed transmission with paddle shifters that sends power to all four wheels. As a result, the Stelvio can reach speeds of 60 mph in just over 3 seconds.
Performance
Along with its stunning body, this hot crossover’s most impressive feature is an ethereal chassis that rides and turns equally well. The ride’s firmness can be altered using a set of conventional adaptive dampers, but it only becomes uncomfortable on the bumpiest roads. But in addition to rewarding the driver with understandable steering feedback, the Stelvio QF also comes with impressive poise. The vehicle’s powerful brakes and grippy performance tires helped the QF reach zero from 70 mph in 157 feet, a performance befitting a sports car.
Fuel economy
The 2022 Stelvio Quadrifoglio has an estimated 17 city mpg and 23 highway mpg. These figures are significantly better than the X3 M (15 mpg city/20 highway) and marginally better than the similarly potent AMG GLC63 S (15 mpg city/22 highway). The most recent Stelvio QF we tested on our extensive testing schedule’s 75 mph highway fuel-economy route fell short of expectations with a result of 21 mpg.
Safety
A variety of standard driver-assistance features, such as automated emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring, are included with the Stelvio QF. Visit the websites of the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to learn more about Stelvio’s crash test results.
Infotainment
Each QF includes an 8.8-inch touchscreen that can be used with the practical rotary controller found on the center console. A wireless phone charger and built-in navigation are standard, and a Wi-Fi hotspot is optional. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also standard. The infotainment system has clear graphics, easy-to-use menus, and a flexible design. Some information and icons are difficult to read, and some navigational instructions are sluggish. Stelvio’s benchmark 12-speaker, 900-watt Harman/Kardon audio system will appeal to audiophiles.
Interior and comfort
The interior of the Stelvio QF has a few design flaws. Still, its leather-covered and contrast-stitched surfaces are a vast improvement over the components used in the Stelvio regular. The QF’s large column-mounted paddle shifters, supportive front seats, and nearly ideal driving position keep the driver feeling close to the racetrack at all times.
Additionally, it has many desirable standard features like a heated steering wheel, heated front seat cushions, 14-way power adjustable front seats, ambient interior lighting, and more. Although the Stelvio’s back seat is comfortable, headroom and interior cubby storage are average. However, even with the seats folded, it is easy to fit up to eight carry-on suitcases behind the back row and an additional 11 bags.
Summing it up
Consider buying the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio if you want a sporty driving experience, an attractive exterior, and an interior that provides the essentials. However, there are better choices if you prefer to drive an SUV that prioritizes interior amenities and comfort.
