Home Remedies for Arthritis
Facing joint pain and arthritis recurrently? Tired of taking analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs? Most people do not know that the solution that they are seeking is right within their reach. So, here are some dietary tips to combat arthritis at the comfort of your home:
Ginger
A natural anti-inflammatory found commonly in everyone’s kitchen, ginger is very effective against arthritis. Ginger is very easy to use. Take some dry ginger pieces and dry grind them. Mix this (six teaspoons) with caraway seed powder (six teaspoons) and black pepper powder (three teaspoons). Mix ½ teaspoons of this preparation with water and consume daily, preferably in the morning. You can also eat fresh raw ginger either alone or along with food. The oil from ginger can also be used over inflamed parts.
Turmeric
Turmeric is a very effective anti-inflammatory in arthritis, especially for rheumatoid arthritis, as it contains curcumin. Turmeric is available in capsules of 500mg or 1000mg. Turmeric latte or turmeric powder, mixed with milk and consumed daily, can be a very good long-term solution for arthritis.
Cinnamon
An effective anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, cinnamon is used to treat arthritis either orally or topically. Topically, cinnamon is mixed with honey to make a paste and applied over the affected areas. Orally, cinnamon powder (1/2 teaspoon) and honey (1 tablespoon) mixed in warm water can be consumed every day on an empty stomach. You can take this preparation till your symptoms of arthritis subside.
Cherries
Cherries contain potassium and magnesium. Potassium reduces inflammation, whereas magnesium reduces pain. This combination of analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties makes cherries a great option for treating arthritis. Take fresh, frozen or canned cherries daily. You can make cherry syrup too by boiling cherries in water. Cherry syrup has a good shelf life.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar contains ample amount of minerals like potassium, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus. Potassium reduces inflammation whereas magnesium reduces pain. In addition, the other minerals help to flush the toxins from the joints and connective tissue spaces. If you have got apple cider vinegar in your kitchen, mix a teaspoon of it with honey and warm water. It acts as an alkali in the body.
Fish and fish oils
Filled with omega-3 essential fatty acids, fish and fish oils are effective as anti-inflammatory agents. Omega-3 essential fatty acids are known to elicit good inflammatory responses against the anti bodies in the joints, reducing the overall time of arthritis-related events. To get maximum benefits, consume fresh cold water fish or take fish oil supplements daily.
Massage
Getting a regular massage done with mustard oil will increase your blood circulation and flush the toxins from arthritis-affected part of your body. This will also help alleviate pain. Just heat the mustard oil slightly, pour it slowly over the affected joints, and massage it in a circular motion. A eucalyptus oil massage is also equally beneficial. The best time to get a massage done is before bed.
Epsom salt
Certain arthritis is caused by deregulated ph levels in the body. The ph levels are in turn maintained by compounds catalyzed by magnesium. Epsom salt is rich in magnesium, which helps to maintain the optimum ph in the body. Consume Epsom salt and lemon juice mixed with warm water daily.
